Mr. Ho Tai-shung graduated from NTHU's Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering in 1983. He established Novatek, a specialized chip R&D and design company in 1997. The company was listed on the over-the-counter market in April, 2001, and subsequently listed on the stock market in August, 2008. At present, the company has a capitalization of NT5.41 billion and a market worth of around NT$60 billion. Of its 857 employees, R&D personnel account for 71%. Two-third of Novarek's employees have Masters or PhD degrees.
Novatek is one of the world's leading display driver IC companies, and its products are used by major international panel companies. It is currently the biggest display driver IC supplier in Taiwan and the third biggest in the world. It had a 21% share of the world large display driver chip market in 2007 (iSuppli 2007). Ranked by turnover, Novatek is the second biggest chip design company in Taiwan and one of the Top 10 semi-conductor manufacturing companies, with turnover of NT$36.1 billion (IEK 2007). In June, 2007, Novatek was ranked 37th in an Asia Business Week list of top-performing companies in Asia. In June,2007, Novatek was chosen by AsiaMoney as the top semi-conductor company in Asia.
Mr. Ho likes to keep a low profile and doesn't appear in public very often, however, he really cares about the development of his alma mater, and spares no effort in providing various kinds of support. His time as a member of NTHU's Mountaineering Club nurtured his love of hiking and mountain climbing. This hobby has stayed with him and helps him stay healthy today. He has also spread his interest to his colleagues at Novatek.In his spare time, he often leads friends and colleagues to challenge high peaks in Taiwan and overseas. Mr. Ho is an enthusiastic advocate of healthy leisure activities and says that hill walking is an excellent way of relieving stress.
