After a series of rainy days, the sun shone and the sky was cleared when a host of NTHU anniversary activities kicked off on April 26. A series of activities with a strong traditional Chinese flavor focusing on the theme of "Tsing (as in Tsing Hua) Dynasty", was presented by various student clubs and participated by Hsinchu residents, alumni and friends of NTHU. For two days the atmosphere on campus was lively and joyful.
A campus road race attracted a large number of participants and the runners created a magnificent and energetic scene as they ran around the spring campus. On the meadow in front of the TSMC Hall, a kite festival painted the blue sky with colorful figures. Also on the same day, the Mei-Chu Games for Alumni were held in the baseball field and badminton hall. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed in contrast with the earnest and combative regular Games in the participants' student days.
In the morning of April 27, an exhibit organized by various departments attracted over one thousand high school students from all over Taiwan. At 11:30 am, the "Outdoor Stage Fair", held in front of the snack bar, began with the "orship of Heaven." Senior faculty and staff members were invited to dot the eyes of the "Tsing" dragon and panda bear. The sound of drums and firecrackers helped to recreate the bustle of a traditional Chinese street market. On the back of the eye-catching purple dragon, wish lists were attached expressing students’ expectations.
People who needed a respite from the excitement could take a rest in the theme-café staffed by NTHU students dressed in qipao, and enjoy a relaxing afternoon while viewing the scenery around Chenggong Lake. The Battle of the Soldier Gods (paintball shooting) took place amidst great excitement on the banks of the lake, giving participants the thrill of a combat. "NTHU Memory Maze" was set up in front of the activity center to exhibit the images of collective memories of the last 52 years. Stories and pictures relating to NTHU in the past were photocopied on recycled paper and randomly pasted in the mazeway to let people feel like they have fallen into the memory lane.
On the evening of the 27th, the Echo Orchestra comprising of Echo Club alumni returned and gave an exciting performance. Winners of the Golden Song Award, the Sodagreen group, also performed at the Pigeon Square, taking the lively atmosphere of the anniversary celebration to a new height.
