Professor Hwang Huey-Liang and Jeff Wu Received the Pan Wen Yuan Distinguished Research Award

The Pan Wen Yuan Foundation selects two to four outstanding Chinese researchers ,worldwide, in the fields of electronics, information and communication sciences and presents to them the Pan Wen Yuan Distinguished Research Awards annually. Two of the Tsing Hua professors won this honor this year when the selection result was announced last June. It is, indeed, a strong affirmation of the research capability and creativity of the faculty members of National Tsing Hua University!
Dr. Hwang Huey-Liang is the founder of the Department of Electrical Engineering and a Distinguished Chair Professor at NTHU. His professional activity, however, expands beyond the university campus. Prof. Hwang is a strong believer of the idea that "all knowledge should be applied to everyday life and for the further improvement of humankind as a whole," and his own career path is one of the cases that best exemplified the cross fertilization of academic research and practical application. In addition to his teaching and research, he was the founder of a semiconductor training center at the Tze Chiang Foundation where numerous high-tech specialists received their training. The Cando Corp. and the Integrated Digital Technologies, Inc. that Dr. Hwang has established are currently considered as the leader in the fields of solar battery and display panel throughout the world. Prof. Hwang received this year's Pan Wen-Yuan Award for his outstanding contribution in the field semiconductor film research.
NTHU's Honorary Distinguished Chair Professor Jeff Wu is currently the Coca Cola Chair Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and an Academician of the Academia Sinica. Prof. Wu has received numerous awards for this contribution to statistic theories, manufacturing engineering. It seems that 2008 is the year of Prof. Jeff Wu for he has received four prestigious professional recognitions---three academic prizes and one honorary doctoral degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada. The Pan Wen Yuan Award that he received has added an important recognition for Prof. Wu's shining academic achievements.
