Professor Jang-Ping Sheu, Department of Computer Science
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a prestigious organization of electrical engineering and computer science has recently announced its new list of IEEE Fellow for 2009. NTHU chair professor Jang-Ping Sheu of the Department of Computer Science was elected for his exceptional contribution in mobile computing and parallel processing.
Professor Sheu has devoted himself to teaching for 21 years, after receiving his PhD degree at NTHU in 1987. He is an outstanding researcher and frequent winner of academic awards, including: three Outstanding Research Awards, two Contract Research Fellow Awards, and Outstanding Contract Research Fellow Award from the National Science Council; Distinguished Engineering Professor Award from the Chinese Institute of Engineers; and K. T. Li Research Award from the Institute of Information & Computing Machinery. Professor Sheu focused on parallel and distributed processing in his early years of research. Subsequently, he turned to wireless network and mobile computer with the advent of network technology and popularization of portable equipment such as PDA, notebook computer. He has made many important contributions in both fields.
Professor Sheu is a scholar who invests unparalleled efforts in research. Knowing the road of academic research is fraught with challenges, he is determined to maintain his motivation by assuming an optimistic attitude and a joyful mindset. He believes in good organization and never put off his work until the next day. Professor Sheu is also an advocator of innovation, as a good research requires constant churning of the mind as well as the ability to think outside of the box.
