On the 18^th of December,2008, President Wen-Tsuen Chen and Mr. Miin-Chyou Wu, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Macronix International Co. jointly broke ground for the construction of a new learning resource center on NTHU campus.Former President Chng-Laung Liu and Mr. Ding-hua Hu, the former Chairman of the Macronix were also at hand to celebrate the project they started a few years ago.

This new center will be named as the Macronix Learning Resource Center to commemorate the generous donation made by the Company. When finished,expected in 2011, this Center will have two sections and a total floor space of 34,866 square meters. The front section will be a four story building in the shape of a computer "mouse" while the main building will have seven stories and shaped like an open book.Such architectural design highlights the basic function of this new center where different kinds of learning resources will be housed and made available to the entire university and the community alike.

President Chen expressed his gratitude for the generous donation of NT$ 300 millions,which was the largest sum made by a single company to a university when it was made few years ago. He also indicated that the blue print of this building and the idea of having a state-of-art leaning resource center were enthusiastically embraced by Macronix International because it corresponded with the company's core value, i.e., innovation. It is due to Macronix's inventiveness that the company has emerged as the world's leading manufacturer of non-volatile memory semiconductor solutions and ROM products. Knowing that knowledge economy is the foundation of future development, Macronix is happy to support NTHU because of its exceptional engineering programs and its brilliant tradition in turning students into creative and productive engineers in the field of electronic industry. Mr. Wu commended that the reason Macronix has been so successful,despite of keen competition and recession, was primarily due to the fact that the company has a team of creative R&D staff and his company is more than willing to support NTHU because of its research capability and innovative education programs.
