Mr. T. J. Tseng graduated from the Department of Physics in 1972 and the Graduate Institute of Physics in 1974. He is currently the president of two major companies, Unimicron and Subtron. Despite the demands of his work, Mr. Tseng remains an avid supporter of his alma mater. In addition to actively participating in many academia-industry collaborative projects, he has also made a number of generous contributions to the university and society in general.

Since graduating, Mr. Tseng has been a strong advocate of research and development in furthering industrial advancement. His experiences span a wide range of occupations and positions from process engineering at Vishay, researcher at Instrument Technology Research Center to equipment manager, factory manager, vice general manager and senior vice general manager at UMC as well as general manager at Unimicron. In 1988 he was the mastermind behind Taiwan's first mass produced 6'' VLSSI FAB that is still a highly profitable item for his company. In 1933 his financial shrewdness took a company deep in the red and turned them into a profitable company. In 2003 the company went on to be the largest PCB company in Taiwan and the 5th largest in the world in 2004. In 2005, under his leadership, Unimicron received the special honor of the National Quality Award. In 2006 he propelled Unimicron further as an international company that is known not only for its quality products, but is also a model corporate-citizen that frequently made generous donations to educational institutions and welfare organizations.

Modest in personality, Mr. Tseng was described by the press as a leader who "does not like to be a dominating figure, but rather a supporter of his employees who encourages and facilitates their growth." "He hopes they can be independent and even surpass him, bringing Unimicron forward to become a world-class company." Under his magnanimous approach to leadership, Unimicron, founded in 1990, is now a truly international supplier of PCB and IC carrier. In 2006, the company's output exceeded 1.1 billion U.S. dollars in value and was the largest PCB provider in the Greater China region. Unimicron values innovation, research and development and teamwork. It endeavors to improve operational efficiency and provide market-based and customer-first services. Over the past decade, it has enjoyed rapid and steady growth, generating high revenues and winning praises from clients in various sectors.

Mr. Tseng's modesty and practicality make him an ideal role model for NTHU students. During his reception ceremony he stressed, "I am very grateful to return to my alma mater under such auspicious circumstances. Over the years NTHU has made consistent improvements to its overall educational environment and has become a world-class university with an outstanding faculty. I believe NTHU students are truly blessed. NTHU graduates are known for their dedication in their related field. Many have garnered great achievements, therefore, I feel extremely honored to accept this award." He continued, "My company enjoys a turnover that has increased from 400 million to over 40 billion NT dollars. Looking back, I believe the company owes its success not only to an exceptional team, but also the solid foundation that I acquired while I studied here at NTHU."
