The gold was truly brought home in this year's National Intercollegiate Athletic Games. NTHU attended six of the twelve events receiving eight gold medals, two silvers and five bronzes. The school came in eighth overall out of the 162 participating universities. That position moves up to third if one does not count the schools whose focus is on physical education.

The eight gold medals consisted of five from swimming, one from track and field and two from table tennis. The swim team also won the group championship in the men's general division, the highest honor for the team ever. Four of the gold medalists also broke records set during the games. In the 4x200m freestyle relay event the team pushed the record further by 14 seconds.

Table tennis was another event marked with fierce excitement. Hsin Pi Yu of the women's team lost the first two games before coming to take home victory in the third. Her triumph sparked the fighting spirit in both the men's and women's teams. In the final game, the women's team defeated National Chengchi University to take home the gold medal 3 to 1. The men's team prevailed by gaining three points in a row to take the win. Finally Ph.D. student Yang Wen-chen triumphed over Feng Chia University's most accomplished player with a final score of 4 to 2 to successfully seize the gold. On the track field, Pei-Yu Chou nabbed the first place in the 100m hurdles to compliment her victory from last year.

NTHU takes great pride in her students who not only strive to enrich their minds but also endeavor to bring honor to the school in the field of athletics. The school will continue to encourage student participation in the games as part of its goal to nurture the talents of it diverse student body.
