On November 11th a joint ceremony was held at Casa de Socrates to recognize new faculty's research accomplishments along with those who made important contributions to the manufacturing industry. Two senior faculty members Professor Jyh-Shing Jang, Department of Engineering and Professor Mao-Jiun Wang, Department of Industrial Engineering were selected as recipients of the Distinguished Award for Successful Collaboration with the Manufacturing Industry. Associate Professor Ray-Kuang Lee, Department of Electrical Engineering, Associate Professor Mei-Chih Hu, Institute of Technology Management and Business, Professor Tsung-Cheng Tsai, Department of Economics, Associate Professor Ta-Jen Yen, Department of Material Science and Associate Professor Huang-Yin Tsai, Department of Mechanical Engineering were the proud recipients of the Outstanding Research Award for New Faculty.
President Wen-Tsuen Chen presided over the award ceremony and congratulated all of the recipients for their accomplishments. He also indicated that the Outstanding Research Award for New Faculty was first established 11 years ago at NTHU and was the first of its kind among universities in Taiwan. Since its establishment, many similar awards have been adopted by other universities in Taiwan. Such recognition helps encouraging new faculty members to develop their research skills and motivate them to make outstanding contributions to their fields.
Professor Youn-Long Lin, Dean of Research and Development emphasized that the recipients of the two awards went through a very stringent selection and review process. These awards showcase and add to the long list of accomplishments and contributions the recipients have made in their respective fields. He also hoped that in the future more professors' would strive to achieve these two outstanding awards and continue to support their fellow faculty members.
Professor Jang, one of the recipients of the Distinguished Award for Successful Collaboration with the Manufacturing Industry, indicated he was very happy to transfer 30-million-NTD Worth of Technology to the industrial sector before his retirement. Professor Wang, the other recipient, also shared his experience in collaborating with the manufacturing sector and encouraged his colleagues to collaborating with the manufacturing sector. Professor Wang stressed that, "such a collaboration, when successful, frequently gives one a sense of accomplishment."
