The University Advisory Committee, consisting Academicians Fang-sen Wang, Yih-yuan Li, Hsiang-Tsung Kung, Kenneth K. Wu, Johnsee Lee, Frank Hsia-San Shu, Way Kuo, Pien-Chien Huang, Chao-Shiuan Liu, Ovid J.-L. Tzeng as well as Mr. Bruce CH Cheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Delta Company met with NTHU administrators and the in-coming President Lih-Juann Chen on December 22nd to review the projects implemented to promote NTHU toward a world-class institution of higher learning and research.

President Wen-Tusen Chen opened the meeting by thanking every members of the Committee for their devotion to NTHU and efforts they have made to enhance teaching and research. Dean Yong-long Lin of Research and Development reported on the status of the cutting edge research projects including current research objectives, capabilities, and collaborative projects with sister institutions and the direction of future developments. Dean Tang of Academic Affairs provided a short report on the university's ducational objectives and efforts made to attract a more diverse student population. Vice President Ming-Chuen Yip briefed the committee on the successful efforts NTHU has made in reorganizing the administrative system and the upgrading of university infrastructure. In the afternoon, the Committee was divided into three groups focusing on "basic sciences," "engineering" and "social sciences, humanities and management sciences." In these three separated group meetings, the deans of various colleges reported on the current states of their respective colleges and held in-depth discussions with members of the Advisory Committee.

In the concluding session, all committee members regrouped and expressed their appreciation for President Wen-Tsuen Chen's outstanding leadership during the last four years and thanked President Chen for the remarkable improvements NTHU has accomplished during his administration.
