NTHU was again named Taiwan's "Most Congenial Campus" in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education on January 25. The Ministry has been encouraging student bodies at various universities to improve their campus environment to foster more interpersonal interaction among students. With this goal in mind, the Ministry sponsored a nationwide competition to promote the program. NTHU has taken great strides to create a personable campus atmosphere where individuals can meet and exchange ideas. This award recognizes NTHU as the best of the best in catering to the ever changing demands of campus life.
In order to develop a more student friendly campus, NTHU has undertaken a number of projects, such as installing Residence Host/Hostess to assist incoming freshmen; periodic visitations to those who live off campus; student loans to those in need; scholarships to those looking to pursue entrepreneurial projects; sponsoring international service teams for those who have an aptitude to help the underprivileged; professional psychological counseling; 3-D topographical campus maps and audio books for the visually impaired; the "Thousand Points of Light" Center to support those recruited under the program; an online counseling website; implementation of a student-initiated self-regulation dorm plan, and the "Campus Security Warning System".
Not only was NTHU recognized again as providing a remarkably congenial campus environment, its President Chen Wen-Tsuen was also recognized as the "President Par Excellence" of the nation. With such diligence and pride, NTHU will continue to fulfill its promise to be a university of compassion and enlightenment.
