On March 16, President Gu Binglin of Tsing-hua University in Beijing arrived with Deputy Secretariat Zhang and a group of faculty members for a two-day visit and consultation with NTHU President Chen and other administrators on the joint Centennial Celebrations next year and future joint programs between the two sister universities.
In President Chen's welcome address, he mentioned the importance of our common roots. Although the two institutions have gone their separate ways, they consistently rank among the top institutions on the both sides of the Strait, according to the survey of the Vision Magazine. "The secret of our future success," said President Chen, "lies in a close working relationship between the two sister universities". President Gu echoed the sentiment and indicated that both schools share not just the same name, but also the same conviction to provide the best education to their students.
It was agreed that on April 24, 2011, each school will dispatch its Vice President to each other's campus, and both presidents shall exchange real-time good wishes via the Internet. Among the scheduled activities are: a publication of a series of books on the school's history, festivities, academic lecture series, international university forums, and the launching of new buildings ( NTHU-Delta Building, MXIC Building; Beijing's School Achieve Center, Music Hall, etc.)
In the area of joint-degree program, it was agreed that once pass the legislation, the joint-degree programs will be first open to M.S. candidates in Spring, 2011. It was further agreed by both sides to establish a "Cross-Strait Tsing-hua Joint Laboratories" to promote future joint projects.
