In December 2001, Macronix International Co., Ltd (MXIC) made a generous donation, in the handsome amount of 300 million NTD, to NTHU, for the construction of a Learning Resource Center. The construction of MXIC Learning Resource started last year and is expected to be completed in 2011 just in time for the centennial celebration of NTHU. While the construction project is progressing smoothly, the University administrators were hard at work to find the needed funds for the furnishing of the new Learning Resource Center. It was at this critical juncture that Chairman Miin Wu of the MXIC opened his checkbook and made another generous donation of 100 million NTD to help with the interior furnishing of the new building.
At the donation ceremony held on Aug. 17, President Lih J. Chen expressed his deep appreciation for the timely gift from Chairman Wu and his company. He also promised to expedite the construction and furnishing projects so that NTHU will have a grand opening of this elegant and functional Learning Resource Center to add an exciting feature in the centennial celebration next year.
Chairman Wu was very delighted that his company can lend a helping hand at this critical junction and indicated that "a good enterprise shall not just be a profit making enterprise. It should be a responsible corporate citizen willing and able to give back to the society. NTHU's excellent reputation and her outstanding education as well as research accomplishments made her an attractive and deserving recipient for donors concerned with education and development of our society." MXIC has established a foundation to reach out to schools and universities by recognizing and awarding those students who have demonstrated their abilities to conduct innovative researches. "We hope," said Chairman Wu," to further the momentum of science education by supporting excellent university and promising students."
When completed, the MXIC Learning Resource Center will looks like an open book besides a computer mouse symbolizing MXIC's core value of innovation and the acquisition and sharing of knowledge.
