Established less than two years ago, NTHU's Office of Industrial Collaboration won the "2010 University-Industry Economic Contributions Award" presented by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), which acknowledges the Office's outstanding contributions in bridging the academics and the industries.
NTHU's Industry Collaboration Office is chaired by the Associated Dean of the R&D Office, and consists of three groups: University-Industry Collaboration, IP and Technology Transfer and Incubation Center. The Office adopts a streamlined single-window service approach in handling and processing all requests concerning joint research between the university and industries. Their dedication has won themselves wide-spread appraises from companies all around the country.
The R&D Office's Incubation Center has been continuously rated "A-Class" for the past eight years by MOEA's Medium-and-Small Business Administration and is also the five-time winner of MOEA's University Incubation Award. The top-ranking Incubation Centered has "graduated" 101 companies, of which eight went public—accounting for one fifth of all university-incubated companies in Taiwan.
The Office's third Office—IP and Technology Transfer Group—also glitters with three consecutive NSC's Annual Technology Transfer Excellence Awards (2007-2009), for its breathtaking annual transfer growth exceeding 97%!
The Industry Collaboration Office has signed long-term contracts with many known institutions and enterprises, including Mediatek, Delta Electronics, Novatek, TSMC, ITRI, and the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, usually with multi-million NTD worth each.
In implementing MOEA's "U-Start Program" which encourages university graduates to start their own business, the office successively assists 14 groups to compete for small-business funding worth more than 30 million NTD. Of these 14, eight had gone on to form their own companies, two received entrepreneurship awards, and three decided to continue operating at the Incubation Center.
To ride on the momentum of these success stories, NTHU is committed to build a brand-new R&D/ Incubation Center, which will a 9-story building with 2 underground floors, totaling 13,000 Sq. m. Upon its completion in 2014, the new building can house 104 incubating companies (from the current 35).
