If one wishes to know how much power a practical idea can really generate, one only needs to look at the fund-raising process of NTHU's Multifunctional Gymnasium. Within a short period, through the power of our alumnus' Club One Hundred, over one hundred thirty-seven million NTD was raised. This successful fund-drive serves as a perfect example of how our alumnus rally together to support and to give back to their alma mater.

During President Lih J. Chen's inaugural ceremony, he mentioned that NTHU needs a new gymnasium. Since it would be NTHU's 100th anniversary next year, he founded NTHU's Club One Hundred. The plan was to enlist alumni and ask them to donated one million NTD each. Together with other donations, NTHU would be able to fund the one hundred seventy million needed to build a gymnasium as a gift, from our alumnus, to celebrate NTHU's 100th anniversary.

The creation of "Club One Hundred" was met with a great deal of excitement and donations came in not only under personal names but also couples, families, and graduated classes. In the middle of November donations from over a hundred of alumnus were received, completing the first part of the plan. The next step is to continue the momentum and hope to raise the needed sum of one hundred seventy million in the near future. When the Multifunctional Gymnasium is completed, the names of every member of the Club will be inscribed in stone and place in an appropriate location as a remembrance to all generous donors.

President Lih J. Chen said that aside from the donations of well-to-do alumnus from the industrial sector, there were also donations from many young alumnus. And he knows it's hard to make one's first pot of gold, but to give it away is even harder. Therefore, he is proud of each NTHU alumni and grateful for their support. This successful fund-rising owes primarily to the excellent work done by the Division of Financial Planning and close teamwork of four people: Director Ming-Teh Hsu, Assistant Director L. J. Chou, Administrative Assistant Yi-Yun, and Executive Assistant Hai-chen Sun.

As we are anticipating the completion of a new gym, we are also making a step toward a new Biomedical Science Building. The construction of the Biomedical Science Building will begin soon, thanks to a donation, in the amount of one hundred seventy million NTD, from an anonymous donor. In the future, the building will be used in the further research and development of biotechnology.
