On November 25th, an annually celebrated ceremony was held at Casa de Socrates to recognize new faculty's research accomplishments along with those who made important contributions to the manufacturing industry. Two senior faculty members, Professor Chih-Huang Lai of the Materials Science and Engineering Department and Professor Nen-Fu Huang of the Computer Science Department, were honored with the Distinguished Award for Successful Collaboration with the Manufacturing Industry. While Assistant Professors Chung-Lin Chen, Institute of Law for Science and Technology, Associate Professor Jyh-Haur Teh, Department of Mathematics, Associate Professor Yung-Hsien Wu, Department of Engineering and System Science, Associate Professor Ming-Chang Lee, Department of Electrical Engineering, Associate Professor Yao-Win Hong, Institute of Communications Engineering, and Assistant Professor Ya-chen Ma, Institute of History, were the proud recipients of the Outstanding Research Award for New Faculty.
The event began with music, as the Stringed Music Club played Canon in D Major during the opening ceremony. President Lih J. Chen presided over the award ceremony and congratulated the recipients for their accomplishments. He hopes that with the recipients in the lead, others can be inspired towards cooperating with individuals. He also mentioned that according to The World Ranking of The Times NTHU has moved up to 107th, the average citation per faculty is the higher among all Chinese universities in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
When the recipients accepted their awards many of them expressed their joy, and thanked their family and colleagues for their support and encomagement. They mentioned that the support of one family is the greatest treasure anyone can have, how with such support they were able to put all their efforts into their research.
The Dean of Research and Development, Shangjr Gwo, emphasized that the recipients of these two awards were selected after careful reviews and detailed discussion, thus to receive these awards is no simple feat. He encouraged the recipients of the Distinguished Award for Successful Collaboration with the Manufacturing Industry to become leaders, leading NTHU collaboration with manufacturing industries to the next level. To the recipients of the Outstanding Research Award for New Faculty ward, he hopes this award will set off a domino effect and be the beginning of a chain reaction which will inspire them to accomplish bigger and brighter things in the future.
