In response to President Lih J. Chen's new "Green Campus" policy and to celebrate the up coming 100th anniversary of our NTHU, Alumni Mr. Eric Chen with the Asia Pacific Fuel Cell Technology Company developed and donated a hydrogen tank exchange station to usher in low pressure fuel cell vehicles to our campus. In the future, NTHU plans to establish a pool of hydrogen fueled campus vehicles, setting a precedent for environment friendly campuses.
President Lih J. Chen said NTHU has been ready for a donation such as the one Mr. Eric Chen made for quite some time, NTHU has been promoting electric vehicles over 30 years and is the only university in Taiwan that has a nuclear science program and research center. In the future, the vehicles will be used to transport documents and equipment on campus. They will be the cleanest means of transportation, quite and emitting zero air pollution. NTHU will set an example and hope to inspire other universities in Taiwan to join us in promoting green energy.
As one of the founders of Asia Pacific Fuel Cell Technology Ltd., Mr. Eric Chen has spent many years developing hydrogen fueled vehicles. He thinks that present hydrogen fuel technology is ready and finds it personally meaningful to be able to donate this hydrogen tank exchange station in time to celebrate the up coming 100th anniversary of NTHU.
Mr. Eric Chen said that automobiles have become a necessity in contemporary society. He mentioned how the 21st century will be called "The Age of Hydrogen", because many ways to produce hydrogen have been developed, hydrogen will become a renewable power source in the future. He explained how fuel cell generators use oxygen and hydrogen as fuel and its only byproduct is pure water, which makes it not only environmental but also inexhaustible.
NTHU's new hydrogen tank exchange station will service fuel cell scooters and four wheel hydrogen vehicles, the exchange of a low pressure hydrogen tank takes less than 30 seconds and is much more environmental friendly than traditional vehicles. This low pressure system is ideal for short distances and in the future when the fleet of hydrogen fueled campus vehicles is established they will use the most environmental friendly way of transportation to keep our campus clean as well as serve as a token of our ambition in developing green technology.
