The 'East Coast Cycling Trip' has become a long-standing tradition of the Cycling Club at NTHU. During every winter vacation, a group of NTHU students take part in such a tour of the east coast. They stop at nothing to complete the three day trip, which involves cycling 170 kilometers along Provincial Highway 11. Whilst the route remains the same each year, the participants varied, with enthusiastic students from various departments and colleges. Year on year, more unforgettable memories and remarkable stories from the journey are recounted as a result of this traditional activity.

Pre-departure preparation is vital for the trip. All participating members took instruction on how to secure their baggage correctly and other safety issues. Such extensive preparation not only helps to ensure the safety of the members but also enables members to appreciate the importance of teamwork.

This year's five-day trip took place between the 17th and 21st of January. In keeping with the spirit of the trip, the team again visited the Atolan Amis tribe in Taitung County, and did some voluntary works for the locals by sweeping streets and delivering meals to the elders in the tribe.

Cycling as a means of transportation couldn't be more different from cars, trains, boats or planes. The joy of travelling by bike lies in the journey itself, where fellow travelers can enjoy each other as companions, appreciating the sounds and sight of nature, encouraging and supporting one another so everyone can complete the long and challenging journey together as a team. This year, the team motto was "Loving Mother Earth is Loving Ourselves", and team members kept telling themselves that "each step helps reduce our carbon pollution a little and each stretch helps trim our bellies!"
