As an excellent institution of higher education, NTHU is not only known for its quality curriculum and stellar research accomplishments, it is also known for the quality of graduates it has trained over the last hundred years. The list of NTHU alumni who had achieved prominence in all walks of life both at home and abroad is long and impressive. As a group they have been the pride of their alma mater, and regardless of the time of their graduation, their devotion and support to their alma mater seemed to have become stronger as time goes by. To acknowledge the achievements they have accomplished, NTHU selects a few of them annually and honor them with the Distinguished Alumni Awards. At the grand ceremony celebrating the centennial anniversary, President Lih J. Chen presented eight of them with the Award and praised them as the best role models.

Mr. Wei-De Li graduated from the Dept. of Nuclear Engineering in 1969. As the creator and owner of the Wei-De Consultancy, Mr. Li started his own business thirty years ago and has established a firm known for its expertise and professionalism. As a successful entrepreneur, he has kept a close contact with NTHU and supported the University in its effort to build a Low Carbon Energy Building as one of NTHU's effort to establish a green campus. Mr. Li was recently celebrated by Forbes Asia Magazine as one of the most generous philanthropists in the Asia region. This recognition is not based on the absolute amount that a philanthropist gives but based on the proportion of his/her wealth that was donated for charity purpose.

Mr. Hung-Liang Hsieh graduated from the Dept. of Physics in 1973, founded the Pu-Guang Instruments Company as well as Vitalis Biomedical Incorporated and is currently serving as the President of Scientech Corp. Mr. Hsieh has devoted more than thirty years to the field of semiconductor technology and enjoyed great success in both photonics industry and the development of analysis instruments. Over the years, he has been extremely generous in supporting his alma mater; he supported the construction of the Second Physics Building and made a substantial contribution to establish the Talent Cultivation Scholarship. To celebrate his alma mater's 100th anniversary, he presented a famous art work by the French sculptor, Auguste Rodin, "Le Penseur" that is now proudly installed besides the newly constructed Learning Resource Center in the center of campus.

Mr. Rong-Zhang Liang graduated from the Dept. of Chemistry in 1975 and is currently the CTO (chief technology officer) at Delta Electronics as well as the President of DelSolar Co. Ltd. Despite of the fact that he has a busy schedule in his roles as the CTO and President, he frequently visited NTHU campus as a guest speaker to share his experience and knowledge with faculty members and students alike. As one of the Directors of the Shui-Mu Chemistry Foundation, he has devoted a great deal of effort to promote exchange and cooperation between the academic and industrial sectors. Furthermore, his research effort has earned him more than 130 U.S. patents. The patent portfolio he has built ranked at the 10th worldwide in the Electronics & Storage Sector by the Spectrum magazine, and ranked highest in the world for its scientific content by the Wall Street Journal, U.S.A.

Mr. Ching-Hsiang Hsu, graduated from the Dept. of Electrical Engineering in 1981, is currently the president of eMemory Technology Inc. which he established in 2000. At eMemory, Mr. Hsu has successfully applied his expertise in semiconductor technology to invent non-volatile memory devices that can be made with logic circuits. This great invention has obtained some 250 IP right and 230 patents in Taiwan and abroad. For such accomplishments, eMemory was awarded with the Industrial Innovation Achievement Award by the Department of Industrial Technology, MOEA in 2006, and the National Invention and Creation Award as well as the Industrial Technology Advancement Award by MOEA in 2008.

Mr. Ji-Ren Chen graduated from the Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering in 1984 and obtained his Master and Doctoral degrees in 86 and 89 respectively. Currently, Mr. Chen is the Director and General Manager of Gigastorage Corp. and President and CEO of Giga Solar Materials Corp. Gigastorage Corp. set a new record in Taiwan as the fastest-growing company to be listed after its establishment; and named by Business Weekly as one of the two companies that grew at the fastest pace in 2000. Since 2004, Gigastorage Corp. has started to develop materials for solar panels and quickly won the second largest share of the Chinese market. From a global perspective, Giga Solar Materials Corp. enjoys 30% of the world market share and is one of the world's top three aluminum paste suppliers.

Mr. De-Cheng Chiu graduated from the Dept. of Nuclear Engineering in 1987. He is the president and general manager of Top Taiwan Venture Capital Co., Ltd., and general manager of several other venture capital companies, including Li-Ding Venture Capital. All his companies are known for their excellent investment performance. While extremely busy with his professional activities, Mr. Chiu can still find time to meet and share his expertise with NTHU students who are interested in starting their own businesses. He believes what he has earned from the public should be used to benefit the society in general and spares no effort to help young people to start their own business and become contributing citizens of Taiwanese society.

Ms. Chu-Chen Hsiao graduated from the Dept. of Economics in 1994 and is currently the manager of the Drama Section of the DaAi Television Company. The documentaries that Ms. Hsiao has produced won many prestigious awards in Taiwan and abroad. For example, Sunny Love and Anthurium, a documentary film focusing on the lives of disabled persons have so far won three Golden Harvest Awards. The Legend of Red Leaves and A Silver Hairpin have also been awarded with Golden Horse Awards as the best documentary films produced in our country. In addition to being an award-winning producer, Ms. Hsiao is also very active in promoting film industry in Taiwan. She has contributed a great deal of effort in helping the organization of film festivals in Taiwan as well as teaching film-making and film appreciation courses both at NTHU and other universities hoping to further vitalize domestic film industry.

Mr. Li-Bai Chen graduated from the Institute of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management in 2006 and is currently the president of A-DATA Technology Co., Ltd., and the president of the Arts & Culture Television. A proud winner of many awards that testifies to his entrepreneurship, Mr. Chen has been very supportive to his alma mater and is using his expertise to help publicize NTHU and its excellent programs. In celebration of the centennial anniversary, his television company produced a documentary film, "Classy and Elegant NTHU," to showcase the history and accomplishments that his alma mater has made over the last century. The A-DATA Technology Company which Mr. Chen founded is yet another successful story. It has now possess more than 400 patents in Taiwan and abroad, of which 83 of them were Mr. Chen own invention. This has made A-DATA Taiwan's number one supplier of memory technology and the recipient of more than 50 major national and international awards.
