A "Tsing Hua Alumni's Entrepreneurial Forum" was held in the morning of April 23, at the Sun Yun-Suan Lecture Hall, College of Technology Management as part of the centennial celebrations. At the opening, President Lih J. Chen, praised the alumni as being one of the three invaluable assets of NTHU (the School Motto, the Campus, and the Alumni) NTHU alumni have supported their alma master generously over the years and benefiting both the school and its students.

Introducing the main topic of day, the Dr. Chin-Tai Shih, the Chung-Mou Chang Chair Professor began by stating that, "innovation relies on two-way developments occurring on an open platform." He mentioned that the interaction between the alumni and the university has built many connections that have resulted in innovation. He compared the relationship between Silicon Valley and Stanford University to that between Hsinchu Science Park and NTHU; he described them as forming a thriving industrial ecosystem.

Mr. Fu-Yuan Lin is an entrepreneur with investments in industries in Silicon Valley. He is the president of Multi-Dimensional Venture Partners and a prolific writer. He came from Silicon Valley specially to encourage NTHU students by sharing his belief in "constant and diligent acquisition of knowledge." He explained that success does not necessarily come to those who have carefully optimized all conditions needed for success, but will certainly go to those who create opportunity for themselves by constantly trying their hardest.

"Tsing Hua Alumni's Entrepreneurial Forum" was established by the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering and Electrical Engineering, as well as the College of Technology Management and the Tsing Hua Entrepreneur Network (TEN), with the aim of assembling entrepreneurs to share the great effort they made in starting their businesses, to describe the business principles, values and methodologies they have adopted for their companies, and to share the deep understanding of society and human nature they have gained through founding and running their businesses. How can we truly understand and appreciate the philosophy of "never quit; never giving up?" What is the difference between fortitude and stubbornness? How can one develop the sensitivity to perceive an opportunity as it appears? How to leverage one's accumulated ability to become a leader? How should an entrepreneur develop policies to lead a team and win the team's trust so as to get the best performance out of the team? Also, how to increase the R&D capability and eventually meet the demands of a special market, thereby creating opportunities? The alumni generously and frankly shared their personal experiences gained from actual entrepreneurial challenges.

The alumni attending this event included: Mr. Tseng-Tzy Jang, the president of Unimicron Corporation; Mr. Jain-Bang Chen, the president of Xintec Inc. and the president of VisEra Technologies Company Ltd.; Mr. Neng-Xian-Tsai, the vice GM of TSMC; Mr. Fan-Jian Kong, an alumnus from the Department of Chemistry, and the co-founder and CEO of VIVO Ventures in the US; Mr. Cheng-Li Lu, the president of INSIGHTS Consulting Inc.; Mr. Rong-Zhang Liang, the president of DelSolar Co. Ltd., Mr. Chang-Lin Cheng, the director of ITRI Display Technology Center; Mr. Bing-Jie Li, the president of EPISTAR Corporation; Mr. Chao-Yang Tsai, the president of Swancor Ind. Co., Ltd.; Mr. Wei-Tai Yang, the technology manager of the ChangChun Group; Ms. Yong-Fen Hsieh, the GM of Materials Analysis Technology Inc.; Mr. Ji-Ren Chen, the president of Giga Solar Materials Corp.; Mr. Ching-Hsiang Hsu, the president of eMemory Technology Inc.; and Mr. Chi-Mo Huang, the president of ILI Technology Corp.
