NTHU has maintained an active interaction with all her alumni, overseas included. Following the great success of establishing the Macao Alumni Association in March, 2011, and the Alumni Association of Overseas Chinese in Taiwan last June, four NTHU faculty and staff members, led by Senior Vice President Ming-Chuen Yip travelled to Malaysia and Singapore to participate in the founding of Malaysia Alumni Association and Singapore Alumni Association on the 24th of September. As the number of alumni grows, NTHU is making a concerted effort to keep all alumni, including those who are currently residing outside of Taiwan, updated on the development of their alma mater.......<<More>>

The National Science Council (NSC) recently announced the 2011 Wu Ta-You Memorial Award winners and five of NTHU young faculty members were among of the list. They are Dr. Ming-Jer Tsai, assoc. professor. at the Dept. of Computer Science, Dr. Chuan-Chin Chiao, assoc. professor of the College of Life Science, Dr. Ray-Kuang Lee, Dr. Yao-Win Hong as well as Dr. Meng-Fan Chang all from the Dept. of Electrical Engineering. The research team led by Dr. Chiang Yun-Wei, an assistant professor of the Department of Chemistry, employed the advanced electron spin resonance (ESR) technique to verify the existence of confined space in porous nanomaterials, thus, enabling future researchers to study the interaction between protein and surface water molecule at the molecular level more precisely. Their research will greatly improve the cryopreservation technique of biological tissue and prolong the preservation of important biological samples. The finding of this important research is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science of the U.S. recently.......<<More>>

The NTHUCS Team composed of Mr. Shuo-Hung Chen, Ms. Hsiao-Mei Lin, Yi-Cheng Chen and Mr. Che-Yi Hung, all students at the Department of Computer Science won the Taiwan Regional Championship earlier this year and represented our country in a global competition for the Microsoft Imagine Cup held in the U. As an excellent institution of higher education, NTHU is not only known for its quality curriculum and stellar research accomplishments, it is also known for the quality of graduates it has trained over the last hundred years. To celebrate the historical moment of Tsing Hua's centennial anniversary, a forum was organized and presented by NTHU's Thinkers' Club on April 14th, 2011. Five outstanding alumni were invited as guest speakers at the forum co-hosted by Vice President Fang Da-Shuan and Mr. Jie-Heng Chung a member of the Thinkers' Club. The invited speakers were: President Lih J. Chen, President Way Kuo of the City University of Hong Kong, Mr. Cheng-Li Lu, president of INSIGHTS Consulting Inc., Mr. Jian-Bang Chen, president of VisEra Technologies Company Ltd., as well as Ms. Chu-Chen Hsiao, a famous film producer and director. In a press conference held to announce the donation of the beetle specimens, donor Mr. Chun-Hsiu Chen, the Deputy General Manager of Yeong An Maritime Co. Ltd., said of his collection: "I have never thought to calculate the monetary value of these specimens because to me they are simply priceless." On March 8th, Mr. Chun-Hsiu Chen officially donated over 5,000 distinctive and rare beetle specimens to NTHU. In the middle of spring when the coldness of winter was yet to dissipate, the atmosphere at both NTHU and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) was already steaming. They were all warming up for the Games. This year's Mei-Chu Games took place between March 4th and 6th and was introduced by the President of the country, Mr. Ma Ying-Jeou. Joyous and Smiling Youth The 2011 East Coast Cycling Trip
The 'East Coast Cycling Trip' has become a long-standing tradition of the Cycling Club at NTHU. During every winter vacation, a group of NTHU students take part in such a tour of the east coast. They stop at nothing to complete the three day trip, which involves cycling 170 kilometers along Provincial Highway 11. Whilst the route remains the same each year, the participants varied, with enthusiastic students from various departments and colleges. Year on year, more unforgettable memories and remarkable stories from the journey are recounted as a result of this traditional activity......<<More>>

"Mr. Jen-Shyong Ho, Chairman of the Ho Chin-Tui Education Foundation and the Tung Ho Steel Enterprise Corporation together with NTHU have written a new page in the education history of our nation," said President Lih J. Chen during the award ceremony of the Ho Chin-Tui Distinguished Chair Professorship and the Ho Chin-Tui Chair Professorship. President Chen noted that universities in Taiwan have made great strides in recent years to upgrade their academic capability and are beginning to attract international recognition. The momentum of such ascendancy, however, was somewhat restrained due to the amount of resources available to the public universities in our country. This situation is about to be changed by efforts made by civic and industrial leaders such as Dr. Ho Jen-Shyong. Dr. Ho's magnanimous donation to endow the two chair professorships made it possible for NTHU to recruit and retain the brightest and the best in a highly competitive market and continue its effort ascending toward a world-class university. Dr. Ho remarked that the industrial and business sectors in Taiwan used to concentrate their support to the universities mainly in the improvement of infrastructure. He believes, his donation to endow the two chair professorships meets the urgent needs of NTHU and is sustainable in nature. It intends to assist NTHU in the highly competitive market and it will also provide the needed recognition for deserving faculty members who have excelled in their research endeavors.......<<More>>
Guests at the Opening Ceremony The National Intelligent Electronics Program – A New Cooperative Framework among Industrial, Academic and Research Communities
After years of dedicated efforts by both industry and academia, another milestone was set recently when the National Science Council (NSC) approved the National Intelligent Electronics (NIE) Program. The approval of this program means that NT$12.4 billion will be invested on the "MG+4C" industries over the next five years. This initiative will focus on nurturing talents in the MG+4C industries, namely talents in medical electronics, green electronics, automotive electronics, computing, communications, and consumer electronics industries. The opening ceremony of the Program took place at National Tsing Hua University on the18th of January 2011, and was attended by leading figures from the industrial and academic communities......<<More>>
Prof. Andy H. Kung Prof. Andy H. Kung’s Research is Published in Science
Professor Andy H. Kung from the Institutes of Photonics Technologies (IPT) and his research team are leading the world in the race to discover a successful method to manipulate the "optical light field." This method is analogous to existing microwave or radio wave technology that allows the modulation of various electromagnetic waves, but would also allow manipulation within the optical frequency range. The Nepal Corps accepted the recognition Student Organizations Recognized for Their Outstanding Services
Two of NTHU student organizations, the Torchlight Club and the Nepal Volunteer Corps were recognized by the National Youth Commission for the outstanding services they had organized and rendered. The Torchlight Club won the Dedication to the Community Award in the community service category, while the Nepal Corps won the Second Place Award in international service.
