| In research, NTHU's strategy is to emphasis basic scientific research as well as its applications.Long term projects are facilitated by an interdisciplinary cooperative effort that typically involves faculty members and graduate students across departmental and collegiate
boundaries. Research results are published in world leading journals.Take the Science Citation Index as an example, the number of papers published by our faculty stands at the forefront of all universities in Taiwan. Furthermore, ever since the National Science Council established the Outstanding Research Award in 1985, our faculty members have won the largest number of suchawards. In natural sciences and engineering, they won one-fifth of the total. Our research excellence is also recognized by the Ministry of Education when it granted a lion's share of the prestigious Academic Awards and National Chair Professorships to our faculty members year after year.
The University makes great efforts to provide and maintain a first rate research infrastructure. Laboratory facilities, library resources, and computing and communication services are continuously being upgraded. In addition to providing physical facilities, we are also aware of the fact that important research projects frequently require teamefforts. Thus, we established 14 topical Research Centers to promote and facilitate interdisciplinary and cooperative research endeavors. These are:Nuclear Science and Technology Development; Scientific Instrument; Biomedical Engineering; Computer and
Communication Research; IC Design Technology; Science Technology and Society; Nanotechnology, Material Science, & Microsystems; Photonics Research; Instrument; ITRI/NTHU Joint Research; Contemporary China; Energy & Environmental Research; Theoretical Sciences; and Brain Research. |
