EXTRACURRICULAR AND SPORT ACTIVITIES
There are over 150 student clubs run by students at National Tsing Hua University. These can be classified into eight categories: Student Associations, Crafts and Skills Clubs, Music and Entertainment Clubs, Service Clubs, Artistic Clubs, Sports Clubs, General Clubs, and various Functional Teams. These student clubs provide opportunities for students to develop their intellectual, social and leadership skills. The recent focus on international volunteers campaign provides students with opportunities to interact with the world renowned NGOs and embrace the world with humanitarian spirits.
The highlight of campus sport events is an annual competition, the famous Meichu Games between Tsing Hua and her neighboring National Chiao Tung University. This annual event features competitions in various sports and games. The competition records are carefully kept by the two rivalries with the intention to better themselves in the games next year!
Emphasis on physical education is one of the cherished traditions at NTHU. With impeccable facilities such as gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, tracks and field ground, various kinds of ball courts, we encourage our students, faculty and staff to exercise as well as cultivate team spirits.
SCHOLARSHIPS, FELLOWSHIPS, STUDENT LOANS AND FINANCIAL AIDS
The University provides ample financial aids to support our students. Scholarships and fellowships are awarded on a meritorious basis. Annually more than six hundred undergraduates and one hundred graduate students receive such supports. In addition, around four thousand graduate students are supported with teaching or research assistantships from various academic units. Work-study opportunities are also available so that students can earn wages as well as work experiences in different capacities on our campus.
For students with financial difficulties, the University provides studentloans and emergency funds to ease their burden so that they will not be distracted. A newly endowed "Pursuing Your Dream Scholarship" is available for supporting students to travel and study abroad and enhance their educational programs as well as to expand their cultural horizon.
STUDENT HOUSING
There are twenty-one dormitories on campus accommodating 5,878 students. Since the majority of our faculty members are also living on campus, students have plenty opportunities to interact with their mentors outside of the classroom. We believe instruction is not just confined within the classroom or laboratory and make great efforts to provide a stimulating environment where teachers and students can interact freely, exchange ideas, and share knowledge. Thus, we are expanding and upgrading campus housing facilities in the hope that we can provide a beautiful and cozy environment for students and faculty alike. One renovating student dormitory with a total of 1,006 units are expected to be completed in 2011.
CAREER PLANNING, OVERSEAS CHINESE STUDENTS AFFAIRS AND GUIDANCE PROGRAMS
To make sure that our graduating students will have a smooth transition from campus to their future workplaces, we stage an Enterprise Expos and Job Hunting Workshop each year shortly before the graduation season arrives.
The Office of Career Planning and Assistance will also function as a referral to recommend graduates who have special qualifications to enterprises that are seeking new talents. The Office of Student Guidance is designed to function as a supporting agency which starts to assist students when they are first admitted and offers various programs to make sure all of our students will have a helping hand whenever they have financial difficulty or are faced with some issues in their academic pursues. For Overseas Chinese students and international students, the Office offers a host of programs and activities designed to enrich their campus life and promote a greater understanding of Taiwanese culture and society.
HEALTH CARE AND COUNSELLING SERVICES
A University Clinic, affiliated with Hsinchu Mackay Memorial Hospital, is conveniently located on campus where first aids and general medical services are provided by a team of physicians and health care specialists at a very reasonable cost.
To promote and maintain mental wellness, NTHU offers various counseling services to students, faculty and staff members at the University Counseling Center. The clinic and the center not only provide services when needed, but also organize and present educational programs for all members of the Tsing Hua family to foster a healthy living style and sound mental attitude. |
